Dragon Ball Z Kakarot’s Final Trunks Expansion Arrives Next Week

The third and final expansion for Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will adapt an iconic television special starring the time-traveling hero Trunks.

The final expansion for the action role-playing game Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, which will focus on the time-traveling warrior Trunks, will release on June 11. Kakarot was developed by CyberConnect2, a studio known for creating the Naruto: Ultimate Ninja series, and was released in January 2020. Since then the game has received two expansions, with the upcoming release set to be the game’s last piece of new content.

Since its release, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has received continued support from CyberConnect2. Two expansions have been released, each adding new characters and story elements to the manga-inspired action title. The Warrior of Hope expansion, CyberConnect2’s third and final expansion for the game, is set to follow the time-traveling Trunks as he transitions from a student to a post-apocalyptic character. The expansion will reportedly be based on the television special The History of Trunks, which takes place in an alternate timeline where protagonist Goku dies and leaves Gohan and Trunks to defend Earth.

A new gameplay trailer for Bandai Namco’s final Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot expansion, Trunks: The Warrior of Hope, reveals the expansion’s release date as June 11. The gameplay preview shows off a battle that occurs between Gohan and the duo Android 17 and Android 18, with Gohan missing his left arm. This scene is taken directly from the History of Trunks animated television special, as Goku’s absence makes it easier for the Androids to destroy the world.

While the game initially launched on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, a recent rumor suggests that a port for the Nintendo Switch is being created. The leak suggests that multiple games published by Bandai Namco, including Kakarot, will be coming to the Switch in the near future. The announcement trailer for the Trunks: The Warrior of Hope expansion also suspiciously included a Nintendo Switch logo alongside other consoles. This trailer included an Xbox Series X logo as well, suggesting that a current-generation upgrade may soon bring the game onto Microsoft’s powerful new console.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot places players in the shoes of the manga franchise’s most powerful super-powered warriors. The game’s high-intensity combat is great fun for fans of the series, and downloadable content has only served to increase the scope of the game. Fans of the post-apocalyptic hero can look forward to the launch of Trunks: The Warrior of Hope on June 11.
